Scholarships for Kids - Supporting education in the developing world

Child in Gambia

Scholarships for Kids is a UK charity that helps primary and secondary school children in developing countries. We are the first scholarship programme which is dedicated to helping children in the poorest areas attend community based independent schools. We believe that only education can change the lives of children living in poverty.

The recent growth of independent schools serving low income families in developing countries has been documented by Professor James Tooley (University of Newcastle), whose research has found that these schools are now providing a viable alternative to government schools and often provide a better education at a fraction of the cost. Further details of Professor Tooley’s research can be found at www.ft.com/tooley.

The Facts

  • 115m children worldwide do not go to school
  • 45m of these are in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Over 1 billion people live on less than $1 a day

With your help we provide scholarships that pay for their school fees, uniforms, books and other school essentials. In many countries just £75 will pay for an annual primary school scholarship.

At Scholarships for Kids we wish to help as many children as we can, but we cannot do this without your support. If you would like to help us give these children the prospect of a brighter future , you can contribute a scholarship, give a donation, arrange a fundraising event or simply tell people about us. Helping just one child to reach their potential by sponsoring their education may seem like a drop in the ocean, but for that child it will make a world of difference.

SFK is currently sponsoring 1000 children in 20 schools in Kenya
